A Watercolour a Day
I am curious to see what a year of my life looks like in 365 (366? is 2012 a leap year?) watercolours. And so! I embark on this journey to paint a watercolour a day for every day of 2012, starting January 1st, 2012. January 7th, 2012. So I smashed this onion in half and wept profusely whilst chopping it into tiny little pieces. I thought, anything that makes one weep, one must paint! Also, may I just use this as a platform to say that any tips I’ve ever been given to avoid the onion tears are absolute rubbish. Nothing ever helps! (Purple onions are pretty though, aren’t they?)

January 5th, 2012. Well, as it turns out, painting watercolours makes me really, really happy and not painting them makes me really, really sad. And so! After 4 days of being absent, here I resume this blog, no longer as a 365 project but just as a blog of my watercolours and my days! So, today I was waiting for the streetcar and the sky was just this beeaauutiful blue, the telephone lines just moving through it and I had this thought: A blue sky always fills me with hope and happiness. It really is just an inherently optimistic sight, isn’t it? (I also want to dedicate this post to my grandparents and my great uncle Joe, love)

December 31st, 2012. My goodness me, today marks the end of A Watercolour a Day and to be honest I am quite emotional about it. This project has been so unbelievably rewarding, so incredibly meaningful and so much fun. What I have learned most over this year is that everything is transient and painting a watercolour a day has forced me to be cognizant of the present and the living within it. Since 2012 was a leap year, the 366th day of the year won’t come around for another 4 years. This subway transfer is the most obviously transient thing I could choose to paint today. It will fall quickly in the past as it is only valid for 15-20 mins, as will this moment, as will this hour, as will this day, as will this year. So, my fellow humans, with this I bid 2012 and A Watercolour a Day farewell, I send love in every direction possible and my wish for all, today and in 2013, is to be here now because there is nothing else.
